Run by the Wharton Global Youth Program at the University of Pennsylvania, this is one of the largest investment competitions in the world for high school students, drawing thousands of teams across every continent.
The setup mirrors a real asset-management engagement: organizers publish a fictional client’s background, financial goals and risk tolerance, and teams spend roughly ten weeks building and managing a portfolio for that client inside the Wharton Investment Simulator.
What separates it from an ordinary stock-picking game is the judging standard - Wharton states plainly that judges assess the strength and articulation of the strategy, not percentage growth. Teams therefore file four staged deliverables: a roster, a trading notes analysis, an investment policy statement, and a comprehensive final report.
The top fifty teams reach virtual semifinals and the top ten present at Wharton’s Philadelphia campus, where a Global Champion is named. A team is four to six students from one high school plus a teacher Advisor, who must handle registration. The season runs from August registration through trading that opens in late September to the Global Finale the following April.
