Does Singapore Math conflict with what Irvine schools teach?
No. Singapore Math is a way of working through problems, using bar models and multi-step word problems, rather than a competing set of standards. Students keep following the Irvine Unified School District sequence at school, and that sequence is set out in the math path overview.
Who is the G7 Math Bridge for in Irvine?
Students entering Enhanced Math in the fall. The two-week summer session bridges into Enhanced Math 7/8, so September is not the first time the student meets that material. Classes hold 6 to 8 students and run as part of the summer academic camps.
How do the G5 and G6 Singapore Math classes differ?
They are grouped by grade and the problems are harder in the G6 class, but the training is the same: bar models and multi-step word problems that build a method for solving. Placement into either one is decided by the assessment, and both run as two-week summer sessions.
Is there a class for young Irvine children?
Little Logic Monsters, for grades 1 and 2. It introduces shapes and logical reasoning with no algebra assumed, and is meant to build habits of observation and reasoning before formal math training begins. Like the other strands, it runs as a two-week summer session.
Are these the same as the summer camps?
These are the math strand within them. The full summer schedule, including reading, academic writing, and speech and debate, is on the summer academic camps page, and strands can be combined within the same two-week session if the timetable allows.
