How do we choose between the regular package and the competition-accelerator package?
The regular package spends every session on reading, vocabulary, and writing ability itself, which suits students who first need to steady their school performance. The competition-accelerator package adds speech and debate or writing competition training on top of those modules, for students who can already write a complete essay and want humanities results from middle school onward. Both packages are available at every weekly-session level.
Is middle school too early for Irvine students to start humanities competitions?
No. Writing competitions reward essay-level ability and judgment in choosing a topic, both of which accumulate slowly, and debate competitions reward a sustained record of events entered. Students who complete an introduction and a first set of entries in middle school are positioned to attempt the most selective contests once they reach an Irvine high school. Students who begin only in high school usually manage one or two seasons.
My child's reading level and writing level do not match. How is that handled?
Each module is placed separately. Reading, vocabulary, and writing are assessed on their own, and the program does not require the same level across the three. A common case is a student reading at L5 whose writing is still at the Beginner level; that student simply shifts more of the weekly sessions toward the writing module.
Why do Irvine families choose this program instead of separate leveled courses?
The difference is a single assessment and ongoing adjustment. Every module shares one assessment and one record of learning data, and after each periodic review we adjust levels, session allocation, and the outside reading list together. EDUBUS is headquartered in Irvine, and most students come from Irvine and nearby cities; from here, families can move on to the G4-G8 grade guide.
